I am currently working in partnership with a long established family owned commercial cleaning company to appoint a Commercial Director. The company have grown steadily throughout its 30-year history, taking advantage of opportunities to diversify and to make complimentary acquisitions. It provides flexible and reliable solutions to its customers, resulting in strong long-term relationships and high levels of repeat business. The business is financially strong, profitable and enjoys a great reputation. At the same time there remain significant opportunities for enhancement through improved systems and processes. Sales and marketing have traditionally been a mixture of proactive (through Tender Frameworks and Public Sector - especially within the Education Sector) and reactive (through general enquiries and recommendations within the commercial and industrial cleaning sectors), providing great opportunities for development. Operational performance is strong thanks to a strong management team (you are not walking into a fire fighting situation) but a focus on efficiencies will reap significant benefits. Additionally there are clear opportunities for further growth both in existing and new services and this is further strengthened by the ongoing development of their specialist cleaning & janitorial divisions. We are seeking a proven business leader, with the experience and confidence to make enhancements, drive growth and profitability and to assist in the eventual sales process. Whilst experience and an understanding within their service sectors would be beneficial, the key focus is on finding an individual who can realise the full potential of the business. Therefore, experience of leading periods of growth and progression is critical.
Candidates for the Commercial Director role will be ambitious, entrepreneurial and motivated - both for themselves and the business. They will have a strong balance between commercial and operational leadership, be innovative and at the same time pragmatic. Candidates must be commercially aware with an extensive knowledge of financial and business management techniques and be skilled in developing and implementing strategic and business plans and deliver insightful monthly reports.
The role demands an individual capable of growing with the business, so personal development is a prerequisite. The ideal candidate will have Sector/Industry experience, of soft services management, specifically commercial and industrial cleaning including the management of large, complex, high value contracts and understanding of the organisation, structure and function of soft service operations, at all levels. Managing teams in terms of monitoring progress, performance and development with an and ability to identify and attract talented employees.
It would be great if the Commercial Director has an understanding of independently owned businesses, experience of supporting management teams through customer engagement and organic growth challenges and successes. This role may suit a candidate who was employed by a SME and who was fully involved with all elements of running and growing a successful commercial cleaning business or an individual currently with a large company but who wants to return to a role that is more hands on, but who is used to working within a smaller organisation.
Salary £45k-£50k, bonus scheme, profit share scheme
Although the majority shareholders are not looking at retirement any time soon, they are keen to build an appropriate profit related bonus scheme/exit valuation incentive around the right individual with genuine wealth creation potential.
