Job Description

We are searching for an additional Firmware Engineer to join a very innovative R&D team based in East Devon.

You will have the ability to develop firmware/software and you will be able to demonstrate solid design engineering practices, with proven experience with firmware from basic bring up/testing through to production ready releases.

You will also be assisting with production test/programming requirements, seeing projects through their complete design and life cycle.

This role is ideal for anyone wishing to fully develop and maintain a modular software platform that spans an extensive electrical product range.

Required Skills

Qualifications or relevant experience in developing software and firmware with C++, platform I/O (or similar), with experience with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth integration.
Familiarity with either Expressif, Nordic, STM32 and rPi Platforms is extremely beneficial.
Detailed knowledge of industry standards and security protocols required for business/professional firmware in consumer electronics.
Good grasp of intellectual property rights and an understanding of appropriate use of open-source vs proprietary systems.
Ability to plan out and propose UI-UX strategy and develop brand identity.
Ability to control lifetime management, security updates, business updates and generational changes.
Knowledge of hardware and ability to make suggestions and help make decisions regarding silicone selection would be extremely beneficial.
Comfortable in leading projects and making decisions that support overall business needs.
Confident communicator with ability to consult with internal/external parties across all spectrums and ensure agreed targets are delivered as per specification or agreement.
Ability to lead development projects under own initiative and actively plan workload to suit company needs and deadlines.
Adaptable and flexible to work on multiple projects.

Develop user bring up, test and production firmware and software for internally developed electrical product ranges.
Resolve technical needs, supporting the integration of this product into systems.
Understand user and business requirements to form framework and long-term strategy for development, evolution, and management.
Develop and test software to ensure product brief and goals have been met and software is stable and secure before release.
Work with production engineering to ensure robust programming and testing is performed during manufacture.
Interpret feedback and roll into development strategy.
Suggest innovative ideas to further enhance the business and user experience.
Ideal candidates will have knowledge and experience in a mixture of the following: -

Microprocessor architecture, communication interfaces/protocols and hardware software integration.
Experience with programming hardware, debuggers, oscilloscopes, and general lab equipment.
Demonstrate understanding of failure modes, self-diagnostics, and redundancy within a system.
Show comprehensive test/documentation strategy.
Be Microsoft Office competent.
Work as part of a team or on their own initiative as the project demands.
Have a passion for learning, and problem solving.
Have the ability to understand and work to task-specific risk assessments and COSHH/MSDS Datasheets.This role is being offered as an office-based position with flexible working hours.
