We are working with an innovative sustainable materials organisation who are looking to appoint a senior chemist into its technical team at its new facility in Kent. You will work closely with the CEO, leading the development of its one-of-a-kind, plastic free coating technology.
To be successful you should hold a Chemistry degree or PhD, possess a forward-thinking mentality with drive, and passion towards sustainability. You should also have previous experience as a development, scale-up, or other chemist role within a similar commercial setting.
As the Senior Chemist you will be responsible for autonomously carrying out various R&D projects, formulating and characterising a variety of coatings to the required standards. You will also be responsible for the scale up formulation for pilot trials and production batches, and liaison with production partners. All documentation, data and associated evidence would be produced to support the external testing authorities and commercial teams in the quest for transparency with new customers.
Senior Chemist Responsibilities:
Review opportunities for process and product development/improvements with Founder.
Maintain raw material knowledge with Industry Standards.
Develop new, market leading products based on critical to quality (CQ) metrics.
Complete project assignments in a timely manner.
Proficiency with Manufacturing processes.
Train R&D Technicians and Jr. Chemists as assigned.
Perform such routine or non-routine tasks as necessary.
Maintain assigned products as a Product Steward.
Maintain work area in a professional manner.
Participate in safety inspections and maintain a safe work area.
Run R&D coatings projects, both short and long term, from concept through scale-up and commercialisation.
Responsible for Health and Safety, COSHH and all aspects of Chemical Laboratory regulatory processes and procedures.
Senior Chemist Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Candidate to be able to work as a team member and independently on multi-task assignments within a SME environment.
Experience in the analysis and application of chemical, physical and mechanical data to problem solving and product development.
Studies and experience in the areas of coatings, surface chemistry or composites is a plus.
Ability to partner with customers in product development programs.
Experience in directing the activities of laboratory technicians.
A passion and desire to support junior team members and create a ethos within the business that drives innovation as we create further products to support the removal of plastic.
In depth knowledge of new legislation on the removal of PFAS for UK, Europe and US would be an advantage.
Willingness to travel within the EU when required (For 1 week per-month.)
