Undersea systems are on the threshold of new capabilities enabled by autonomous undersea vehicles and ever improving sensor systems. Join BAE Systems to be part of the growth and advancement that these technologies bring.
As part of the Undersea Technologies team, you'll design and develop vehicles and sensor systems for the US Navy and for research organizations such as the Office of Naval Research and DARPA. This spans the spectrum from developing exploratory new technologies to preparing systems for qualification testing and full rate production. Efforts include mission analysis and design of sonars; UUVs and their control, propulsion, energy, sensors, and payloads; and adapting existing payloads for maritime use.
In this role you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to formulate solutions that meet customer's needs, then design and qualify the solution. These products must satisfy the Navy's documented and implied needs to help them complete their missions effectively. Transition from design through qualification and in to full rate production is expected to be rapid; devising and completing risk-reduction prototyping efforts throughout the development is required. We expect frequent interaction with Navy personnel to ensure that our systems and designs meet their needs.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Ocean Engineering and 10 years relevant work experience.
Significant experience in maritime and Navy systems is required. The successful candidate will have experience with and be comfortable with direct customer interaction, including explaining our planned development to Navy Program Office personnel, and debating our technical solution with technical authorities at Navy labs and Federally Funded Research and Development Centers.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
A master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Ocean Engineering is preferred.
Experience with formal DoD System Design and Development programs is preferred.
